Camps

Faces Northwest:  They conduct an eight-week therapeutic recreational day camp in July and August for children and young adults with autism from ages 5 through young adults.

Max Higbee CenterMax Higbee Center is a grassroots organization founded by educators and families of people with developmental disabilities who wanted quality recreation opportunities in Whatcom County.


NorthwestTherapeutic Riding Center:  Serve over 60 riders per week. Participants include individuals with autism, spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, brain injuries, and learning/behavior disabilities. Riders have ranged in age from 2 to 74.



Activities

Bellingham Parks and Recreation department has swimming groups and other activities for special needs children and adults. 

Technology


GUS Communication Devices:  Gus Communication Devices is a leading developer of speech software and "apps" for over 25 years. We created the FIRST Windows compatible AAC/Speech software in 1992 and continue to lead in the world of "speech apps" today.


General Services (non-assessment)

 Whatcom CountyDevelopmental Disabilities program:  The Developmental Disabilities program contracts with various agencies in the community to provide services for residents of Whatcom County and their families. Primary funding for services comes from the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) with additional support from local funds.





The ARC of Whatcom County:  The ARC provides assistance, services, and supports for a variety of developmental and other disabilities. Services vary so check their website for updates.


Parent to Parent of Whatcom County: Personal support groups for parents of special needs children.
